The Winstons
There are two bands sharing the name:
Historically, The Winstons were a funk and soul music outfit from the 1960s who are most notable for recording a track called "Amen, Brother" (a B-side to the single "Color Him Father" edited in 1969). "Amen, Brother" is probably the most sampled record of all time. Midway through the track there is a drum solo which contains the "Amen break" which has been sampled and used in thousands of hip-hop, drum and bass and jungle tracks.
The Winstons were:
* G.C. Coleman (vocals, drums)
* Richard Spencer (lead vocals, tenor saxophone)
* Ray Maritano (vocals, alto saxophone)
* Quincy Mattison (vocals, lead guitar)
* Phil Tolotta (second lead, organ)
* Sonny Peckrol (vocals, bass guitar)
Recently a new band has adopted the moniker, an Italian psychedelic power trio formed by Roberto Dell'Era (bass), Enrico Gabrielli (electric organ) and Lino Gitto (drums), presenting themselves as Rob, Enro and Linnon Winstons. The sound of their self-titled debut, released on January 2016, is heavily indebted to the Canterbury scene (especially Wyatt-era Soft Machine), Camel, Gong, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles' psychedelic period, among others. The band is a supergroup bringing together members of various bands, as well as collaborators. Read more on Last.fm.
